Summer Reading Program

SRP 2024

We have fun activities for ALL AGES running throughout the summer. Read through the drop-down list below for all the SRP 2024 details.

What is Summer Reading Program?

At its base level, SRP is tracking your reading through July & August to earn entries into prize draws. Turn your reading into prizes.

We also have lots of fun activities happening at the library, or things you can do at home or your summer fun destination for added summer fun!

Everyone, any age, can log their reading this summer!

Keep track of your reading through July & August and turn your minutes into ballots for a prize draw.

ALL AGES (kids through adults) welcome to participate.

Online Reading Log

Paper logs are available to pick-up at the library or print your own with these PDF links below:

Northern Lights Library System has 3 grand prizes to give away via a prize draw at the end of the summer.

All reading done from July 1 through August 31 is eligible for SRP 2024.

Earn ballots to enter prize draws - ballots will be earned based on quantity of time read, the more you read the more entries you earn.

NLLS Grand Prizes categories are:
ages 0-9
ages 10-16
ages 17+

For School aged kids - ages 6-12

There is also a SPECIAL PRIZE DRAW for kids ages 6-12 at the library.

Log your reading with the regular SRP forms (online or paper), and we'll take all the time submitted by August 16 for this special prize draw.

Keep logging for the rest of August to get more time in for the NLLS Grand Prize Draw.

Our 2 hour programs will provide your kids with fun for the summer, and you can fit them in around your other summer adventures.

Important to note:
  • children aged 6-9 should be dropped-off & signed in to all programs by a guardian
  • children 10-12 can sign themselves in and must provide a guardian’s phone number

Most programs are running Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between July 3-August 16, with the wrap-up party on August 21. A few extra programs are sprinkled in on Mondays & Fridays.

Check out our Online Calendar for full details of each day, or click the PDF links below for each month's calendar at a glance. Paper copies of the monthly calendars will be available at the library.

Swag Swap

Get creative! Make a small, useable item like a magnet, bracelet, keychain, zipper-pull or other fun things.

Make these at home, or watch for our Swag making program in July.

Send it to us to be swapped with a swag item made somewhere else in the Northern Lights Library System.

The last day to turn items in to Bonnyville Library is Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

It is important that you fill out a specific label when turning your swag in to the library **DO NOT drop these item in the book drop. You must hand deliver them to library staff. - If we don't have a label we can't swap it and you won't get a return item.

Swag should be:

  1. Wearable or usable
    1. We want to discourage things like paperweights or knickknacks, although you can use your judgement in deciding. Stuff like bracelets, stickers or backpack charms is great.
  2. Appropriate for everyone
    1. Use your judgement here – for example, given that the program is ‘trading small objects’, we are not too concerned about choking hazards. Would it be okay for a way-too-curious 8-year-old to get this item? How about a Hutterite family?
  3. Not overly breakable – it has to survive van run!
  4. Small enough to fit in a Ziploc sandwich baggie

Friday 15

Compete against other communities in the Northern Lights Library System for the most Friday readers!

Log online when you read for a minimum of 15 minutes any Friday in the summer and help Bonnyville beat our neighbouring communities.

Each person counts, so if your whole family reads be sure to count them all when you log your participation.

There's a special prize draw for Friday 15 participants. Every Friday you log earns a ballot into the draw.
